How It all started…

I’m Wendell, a passionate sports photographer based in New York City. My journey began with a deep-rooted love for sports and photography and in 2010 I made the decision to blend these two passions into one cohesive pursuit. I immersed myself in learning experiences starting with seminars at the New York City Digital Photography Workshop (nycdpw.com). I later formally studied digital photography, lighting and composition at the PhotoManhattan Photography School in New York (PhotoManhattan.com).  The turning point came in 2012 when my work was showcased in an exhibition for emerging photographers at the SoHo Gallery for Digital Art in New York City (now the SoHo ArtHouse). Emboldened by this recognition, I ventured into freelance photography in 2014. The following year marked a milestone as I embarked on my first collaborative event with USA Today Sports Images at the 147th running of the Belmont Stakes.  In 2016, I officially joined the USA Today Sports Images photography team, and in 2024 I joined Imagn Images (galleries), solidifying my position in the dynamic world of sports photography. Today, I find myself immersed in the heart of the action, capturing the essence of major sporting events across the bustling landscape of the New York Metropolitan area.
